ROYAL ASCOT winner Acapulco (Wesley Ward/Robby Albarado) faces older rivals again as the Coolmore filly has a prep run before returning to Britain as part of ‘Team Wesley’ for next month’s royal meeting.

Having blasted her way home in last year’s Queen Mary Stakes before finishing second in the Nunthorpe, the three-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy’s target this time around is the Commonwealth Cup.

Acapulco, who is running for the first time since an odds-on victory at Turfway Park in February, has drawn the tricky inside post in a field of nine for the Unbridled Sidney, a $65,000 event without graded status.

“We’re excited about her,” said Ward, speaking to the Blood-Horse. “The timing is right and I really need this one more race in her to have her perfect for Royal Ascot.”

Also on Saturday

Belmont Park: Ruffian Hcap (Grade 2) 1m, dirt, 4yo+ f/m (9.41pm BST, live on ATR)

A pair of Grade 1 winners clash here in Cavorting (Kiaran McLaughlin/Javier Castellano) and Include Betty (Tom Proctor/Jose Lezcano).

Belmont Park: Peter Pan Stakes (Grade 2) 1m1f, dirt, 3yo (10.45pm BST, live on ATR)

A handful of promising types in this traditional lead-up to next month’s Belmont Stakes for those who weren’t quite ready for the Kentucky Derby.

Grade 3 winner Unified (Jimmy Jerkens/Jose Ortiz) stretches out in distance, while Governor Malibu (Christophe Clement/Joel Rosario) passed the post first in a stakes race at Laurel only to be demoted for interference. His trainer won this in 2014 with Tonalist, who thwarted California Chrome’s Triple Crown bid on his next start.

Decorated Soldier (Todd Pletcher/John Velazquez) is a stakes winner from the top stable in the land, while Adventist (Leah Gyarmati/Irad Ortiz) missed the cut at Churchill Downs.

Belmont Park: Man o’ War Stakes (Grade 1) 1m3f, turf, 4yo+ (11.17pm BST, live on ATR)

Leading trainer Chad Brown saddles three in this $400,000 event in ex-European pair Morandi(Javier Castellano) and Wake Forest (John Velazquez) and Money Multiplier (Irad Ortiz).

Kaigun (Mark Casse/Joe Bravo), though, may start favourite after a win and two seconds in three Grade 2 starts this year. He was a head in front of Wake Forest in last month’s Pan American Handicap – but the runner-up has a 2lb pull, so there’s nothing between the pair.

Ladbrokes: 5-2 Kaigun, 3 Wake Forest, 6 Up With the Birds, 7 Morandi, 8 Closing Bell, 10 Go Around, 16 Can’thelpbelieving, 20 Biz The Nurse, Money Multiplier
