ALTIOR will not be seen at Aintree with connections instead choosing to school him over fences next week with a view to helping their deliberations over whether to aim at the Stan James Champion Hurdle or Racing Post Arkle Chase next season.

The devastating winner of last month’s Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle had been as short as 4-7 for Friday’s Grade 1 Top Novices’ Hurdle, in which he could have clashed with one of Willie Mullins’ young stars, Limini or Yorkhill.

However, Henderson will now be represented by Supreme third Buveur D’Air, who had been a 16-1 shot with Paddy Power but has been cut to 5-2.

Henderson said: “We’ve discussed what we should do with Altior. There is nothing wrong with him and he looks fantastic but we’ve decided he has done his bit for the season so he won’t be going to Aintree. Buveur D’Air will now come into that race.

“Altior’s owners, Pat and Christopher Pugh, are now going to come down next week when Altior will school over fences under Nico (de Boinville).

“We need to decide if next season he will go down the Champion Hurdle or Arkle route. Schooling him now will give him and us something to think about.”
