SUNDAY’S meeting at Fontwell, due to feature the British debut of the intriguing Bloody Mary, has been abandoned as the course is waterlogged.

Officials inspected the track on Saturday morning, but were left with no choice.

Trained by Nicky Henderson, the JP McManus-owned Bloody Mary, who has won her last six races in France, was declared for the 2m1½f novice hurdle for mares.

However, her first outing for new connections will have to wait.

Speaking before Fontwell cancelled, Henderson said: “She’s a decent sort who we are looking forward to seeing on the course, and she could be one for the mares’ novice hurdle at Cheltenham.”

The Trull House Stud Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle is a new race at this year’s Cheltenham Festival and takes place on March 17.
