TODAY’S meeting at Exeter, due to provide Cheltenham fancy Buveur D’Air with his final outing before the festival, goes ahead, but the promising novice hurdler will not run.

The fixture, which offers £106,000 in prize-money, had been in doubt after heavy rain left parts of the track waterlogged, but officials are satisfied racing can take place.

Clerk of the course Barry Johnson, who describes the going as heavy, has omitted the final fence and hurdle, and said a decision on whether two more fences are taken out will be made later, while all races will be run on the chase bends.

The forecast for today is mostly dry, which will be good news for racegoers attending the classy card, starting at 2.10.

Buveur D’Air, a general 7-1 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham next month, was odds-on to win the Listed novice hurdle, but stays at home because of the ground.

Lingfield, like Exeter, was also hoping to host jump racing, but has abandoned its fixture on Tuesday as the track is waterlogged, while Catterick stages a day-of-racing inspection at 8am tomorrow.
