Last year’s Prix de l’Abbaye winner, who did a hack canter on the dirt training track on Thursday morning, finished a respectable seventh in his trial in the Group 3 Meydan Sprint on Super Saturday but has not thrived since.

Cowell said: “This should have been right up his street, but I don’t think he’s had enough time to acclimatise since coming here. He looked dull in his coat when he ran on Super Saturday  and that’s not like him.

“He always runs well on his first outing, but this time he didn’t. and he’s not improved in his coat since.”

Muthmir well drawn

The five-year-old, a 12-1 chance with Ladbrokes, features among a strong British turnout in the 13-runner 5f turf contest which also includes the William Haggas-trained Muthmir.

Haggas is expected in Dubai on Saturday but his son Sam commented on Thursday: “We think Muthmir is well drawn in stall ten which is close to the pacy Lady Shipman. The stands’ side can be the place to be in these sprints and we are hopeful.

“We obviously respect Ertijaal who my father trained before he came out here and we are just hoping that Paul Hanagan has picked the wrong one.”
