ANY outside chance ante-post Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle favourite Yanworth could divert to the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March has ended, after he was entered solely for the Neptune on Thursday.

A total of 269 entries have been received for the four Grade 1 novice hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival, though there is no place for Yanworth in the Supreme.

Despite shooting to the top of the Neptune betting after a deeply-impressive win at Cheltenham on Trials Day, it was anticipated that Yanworth would be given the option of the Supreme, for which he was as short as 8-1 at the time the entries were revealed.

The other market leaders for the festival novice hurdles feature in more than one race, with Albert Bartlett favourite Barters Hill handed a Neptune entry, while Supreme market leader Min has been given a speculative entry in the same race too.

Mullins dominates

Min is responsible for two of the 66 entries made by Willie Mullins in the four races, meaning Ireland’s champion trainer has just under a quarter of all entries revealed on Thursday.

No fewer than 13 of his horses could yet run in either the Supreme, Neptune or the Albert Bartlett.

The race in which Mullins’ grip is weakest numerically is the JCB Triumph Hurdle. Favourite Ivanovich Gorbatov heads an initial field of 54 for that race, which includes six from Mullins’ yard.  Paul Nicholls has 12 Triumph entries, while Nicky Henderson and Alan King both have five.

Curious Triumph entry

It is the Triumph Hurdle that includes one of the more interesting entries. The only French-trained horse entered across the four races is Maquisard, who won at Pau last month for Guy Cherel and has been installed at 50-1 with Paddy Power.

The last winner of the Triumph trained in France was Snow Drop in 2000, who conquered for trainer Francois Doumen under his son Thierry.
