FROSTED advertised his Dubai World Cup credentials in style as he raced away from his rivals to score a dominant win on his first start at Meydan.

Returning from a 96-day absence, Frosted could hardly have been more impressive as he swept by long-time leader Munaaser to win going away by five lengths.

The grey was last seen failing to fire when beating just one home in the Breeders’ Cup Classic last year but, on this evidence, the Grade 1 winner is back on song and looks a leading World Cup contender.

New track record

Frosted’s success what not only visually impressive but stood up to scrutiny on the watch too, with the four-year-old shaving two seconds off the track record, scoring in 1m 56.67s.

“He was very impressive,” said winning rider William Buick, who could barely conceal his admiration for the Kiaran McLaughlin-trained winner.

He added: “I just heard it was a new track record – he felt very impressive, so I’m not surprised. I was very pleased with the way he’s managed to do it.

“He didn’t have a hard race, it all went very smoothly. It was a nice stepping stone for him, because he’s had a bit of a lay-off.

“He should have enjoyed that experience and come on bundles for it. He gave me a very nice feel, he’s a very nice horse. He’s been very well prepared by Kiaran and the team and I’m very grateful to be on him.

“He’s got a couple more steps before he gets to [the World Cup] but he couldn’t have been more impressive there and that’s the way we’re going.”

No match

Having broken from the stalls cleanly, Buick positioned Frosted to the outside of the leader Munaaser, who dictated a steady tempo under Paul Hanagan.

The Mike De Kock-trained Pray For Relief kept close tabs on the pair in third but neither proved a match for Frosted as he began to make his winning move in the straight.

It was Gold City who stayed on best of the rest to take second, five lengths adrift, with Faulkner almost three lengths further back in third.
