Terrell Owens gets emotional during a postgame news conference after his Dallas Cowboys lost to the New York Giants, 21-17, in an NFC divisional playoff football game in 2008.

Some things never change.

Terrell Owens ran his mouth a lot during his playing days as one of the NFL’s best wide receivers. After not getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, he vented on ESPN’s “Mike and Mike,” and called out one player specifically — Cris Carter.

“He is a guy that’s criticized me plenty of times, for anything,” Owens said on Wednesday. “For me, that was something that motivated me… for somebody like that, for Cris Carter to come out and say something like that, I just felt like it was disrespectful.

“And so now, when you look at where I am statistically, I’ve surpassed him. And from what I’ve heard, from a lot of guys, he begged his way into the Hall of Fame,” Owens said.

Host Mike Greenberg quickly shot the claim on his co-worker down, saying “he (Carter) can answer that himself.”

The two former standout wide receivers have a history of talking smack to each other.

Carter, who retired in 2002 and was inducted into the hall of fame 11 years later, criticized Owens early in his career.

In his 2013 book “Going Deep,” Carter recalled how Owens acted disrespectful the first time they met off the field after the 2000 season.

“Apparently, Owens was still miffed about a postgame interview I’d done after the 49ers beat us in a playoff game back in 1998,” Carter wrote. “After the loss, I’d told reporters that our defense had let us down that day.

“The 49ers had played without Jerry (Rice) — he was sidelined with a knee injury — and we still let Owens and J. J. Stokes, another young receiver, make plays against us.’I can understand if it was Jerry out there,’ I said that day. ‘But those other guys doing that doesn’t make any sense.’”

Owens foreshadowed his money quote on “Mike and Mike” over the weekend on Twitter in a reply to a fan.
