Will Hill, who earned three NFL suspensions while with the Giants, is banned 10 games this time.

Just when you thought Will Hill might be turning things around, the former Giants safety is in trouble again.

Early Thursday afternoon, Hill, who just wrapped up his second season with the Baltimore Ravens, was released. Hours later, the reason became clear: According to ESPN, Hill was slapped with a 10-game ban for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

This is the fourth time in five seasons that Hill has been suspended; he was hit with season-opening four-game bans in each of his first three seasons.

Those first three suspensions were with the Giants, the club that took a chance on him after he’d struggled with marijuana use during a disappointing college career at Florida. New Jersey police also twice issued arrest warrants for Hill because of missed child support payments.

Hill saw part-time action with the Giants in his first two seasons, and had two interceptions in 2013. But after his third suspension, for marijuana use, before the 2014 season, he was released, with then-Giants coach Tom Coughlin expressing disappointment in Hill, but adding that “unfortunately, it was the right thing to do.”

It appeared last season that Will Hill was finally get his life together with the Ravens.

Even former Giants safety Antrel Rolle, Hill’s mentor, seconded the move, saying the young safety had “forced the Giants’ hand” and that Hill was “moving in the wrong direction.”

But the Ravens added Hill, and he emerged as a playmaker late in 2014, making 41 tackles and returning an interception for a touchdown. He earned a two-year contract extension before the start of the 2015 season. This past season also marked the first time in his career he was active for all 16 games.

Then came Thursday, and now, his NFL career is in jeopardy. The Ravens, with depth at safety thanks to the recent signing of veteran Eric Weddle, had no desire to deal with Hill and his problems. It’s unlikely that any NFL teams will have that desire, either.
