The Scoop6 bonus fund fell for the first time in nearly a year on Wednesday after some fast work by Tuesday’s winning ticket holders landed 13 of them with a share of the near-£2 million pot.

The bonus fund had little chance of surviving as Tuesday’s winners collaborated, which resulted in the first 13 in the betting being covered in the bonus race that was the Royal Hunt Cup.

Only one ticket holder went alone and in picking 14-1 Balty Boys would have shared the pot with the collaborators, headed by the syndicate of Richard Brocklebank, known as the Scoop6 Squirrel.

The success of 10-1 chance Portage topped up Tuesday winnings of £129,252 with their share of the £1,998,140, which had accumulated since the last bonus win on July 4, 2015.

The successful bonus chase rather overshadowed Wednesday’s winners of the Scoop6, when the three winning ticket-holders collected £87,546.60 each.

On Thursday they will bid to land the bonus fund – which stands at just £7,556.
