PUNTERS were warned on Monday not to back one-time Derby favourite John F Kennedy for the JCB Triumph Hurdle, despite the colt appearing in the betting for the Cheltenham race with some bookmakers.

The son of Galileo, who has not run since finishing third in the Group 3 Enterprise Stakes at Leopardstown in September, was on Monday quoted at between 25-1 and 33-1 by four firms for the Triumph.

However, he will not be pursuing a career over jumps and has instead left Aidan O’Brien’s yard and crossed the Atlantic for the next chapter in his career.

Richard Henry of Coolmore said: “John F Kennedy has been sold to an Argentinian bloodstock company and will stand as a stallion over there, although he may race in the US before then.”

Rumours quashed

Sky Bet, one of the firms quoting 33-1, explained they had received a few inquiries for John F Kennedy at the beginning of the jumps season and therefore decided to offer a price.

Alan Alger, spokesman for Betway, who likewise quoted 33-1, said: “One of our trading team heard a rumour they may have tried jumping a flight or two with the horse, so we stuck him in at a sporting price.”
