Ryan McDonagh earns John Halligan ‘Good Guy’ award from the local Rangers beat writers.

MONTREAL – The New York Rangers chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association has named captain Ryan McDonagh the 2016 recipient of the John Halligan Good Guy Award for cooperation with the media.

McDonagh, 26, is accountable, friendly, honest and always available. All five of the Rangers’ most accountable and most frequently present leaders now have captured the annual award: Henrik Lundqvist (2007-08), Dan Girardi (2012-13), Marc Staal (2013-14), Derek Stepan (2014-15) and McDonagh.

A player can only win the Good Guy Award once. Eleven writers voted, ranking their top three candidates for the annual award in first (three points), second (two points) and third (one point).

McDonagh (15 points) edged Derick Brassard (12 points) and Keith Yandle (12 points) in a tight race. J.T. Miller (eight points) deservedly received recognition during a breakout season on the ice, as well.
