ROBBIE McNAMARA enjoyed a dream start to his training career at Cork on Friday evening when gaining a win with his first runner before going on to finish the card with a double.

Chadic was a first runner for the former rider, who was paralysed from the waist down in a fall at Wexford in April 2015, and the 12-1 shot, a three-time winner on the Flat with Mark Johnston, won the 2m maiden hurdle by two lengths under 7lb conditional Conor Brassil.

The landmark winner is owned by Dr Ronan Lambe, for whom McNamara rode many winners, including two notable successes at the 2014 Cheltenham Festival when he took the Kim Muir Chase on Spring Heeled, trained by Jim Culloty, and the Weatherbys Champion Bumper on the Dermot Weld-trained Silver Concorde.

McNamara said: “I thought Chadic would run well. He’s a bit clever and minds himself a bit, but he won well and should improve.”

The new trainer was back in the winner’s enclosure following the 2m bumper after Rathcannon cruised home under 5lb claimer Finny Maguire.

It could have quite easily been a treble as earlier on the card Call Vinnie threatened to win the 3m maiden hurdle before being held in second. McNamara’s other runner Flush Or Bust failed to make the frame in the 2m maiden hurdle.
