MIN, the horse with the shortest name but the biggest reputation running today, will face four rivals at Punchestown as he bids to confirm his position at the head of the market for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in March.

The Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old is 11-4 favourite to give his trainer a fourth consecutive victory in the Cheltenham Festival opener the stable won with Champagne Fever in 2013, Vautour in 2014 and Douvan last year.

Vautour and Douvan won this afternoon’s Sky Bet Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle (2.05) en route to festival glory and Min, who trounced his rivals by 14 lengths on his Irish debut over this course last month, will not only be attempting to follow suit but will be bidding to give his trainer a fourth consecutive win in the race.

Before his maiden hurdle win rumour had it Min, who ran a couple of times over hurdles in France, was an exciting talent and he lived up to his billing with an impressive victory under Ruby Walsh.

Step up in grade

“We’re going to learn more about him here before we start focusing on the festival,” said Mullins.

“He’s dropping two furlongs in trip, but I don’t see that being an issue as I thought when he won last month he’d have no problem going up or down in distance.

“He has done well since his win and is in very good form. We think he’s improved and we’re looking forward to him moving up in grade.”

Those taking on Min include Attribution, trained by Henry de Bromhead, and the Gordon Elliott-trained Ball D’Arc, who are both Gigginstown House Stud-owned maiden hurdle winners.
