Jesper Fast leaps into the arms of Keith Yandle after scoring the go-ahead goal with 1:42 remaining.

Not so Fast.

The Rangers gave the puck away much too often Monday night against the Boston Bruins, but Derick Brassard scored the game-tying goal early in the third period and Jesper Fast tipped home the game-winner past Tuukka Rask swith 1:42 remaining to lift the Blueshirts to a 2-1 win over the B’s at the Garden.

Fast tipped home a Keith Yandle flubbed shot after Kevin Klein had sent a slap shot wide. The Rangers (23-14-5, 51 points) then held on desperately as the Bruins (21-15-5, 47 points) came inches from scoring about six times in the game’s final 90 seconds but didn’t get one past Henrik Lundqvist.

Brassard scored off assists from Mats Zuccarello and Ryan McDonagh just 35 seconds into the third period to tie the game at one apiece. Then Lundqvist made a huge right pad save behind his body while lying on his stomach 13 minutes in on Max Talbot to keep the game tied.

Jimmy Hayes, older brother of Rangers forward Kevin Hayes, gave Boston a 1-0 lead 9:04 into the second period on a wrist shot from the high slot. Chris Kreider’s turnover in the neutral zone led to Hayes’ wrister low stick side from the high slot, but it was a shot Lundqvist normally saves and should have stopped.

There were injury setbacks, too. Defenseman Dan Girardi left for the locker room with an apparent injury after concluding a shift 4:46 into the second. And defenseman Marc Staal appeared to have his bell rung on a collision with Bruins forward Zac Rinaldo. Staal, though, remained in the game.

There were scattered boos at the end of the second period as the Rangers’ giveaways that started in a shaky first period increased in frequency in the second.

Some of the Rangers’ worst worrisome habits returned courtesy of the usual suspects in Monday’s first period, though the game went scoreless into the second.

Kreider, back in the lineup after two scratches due to a hand injury, committed an unforced turnover to Bruins center Ryan Spooner, who juked Henrik Lundqvist alone but hit the post and out on the dunk. Defenseman Keith Yandle gave the puck away in droves.

Derick Brassard’s line showed more jump than it had Saturday against Washington and captain Ryan McDonagh got involved offensively, but the Bruins were able to find chances in the middle of the ice that the Blueshirts have limited recently but given up too often this season.

Vigneault spent the second-half of the period trying to juggle Kreider around to a line that fit. Kreider replaced healthy scratch Oscar Lindberg on the left wing of Kevin Hayes and Jesper Fast but spent some time early with his typical linemate, Derek Stepan, as well.

The Bruins played without three injured starters: top-line center David Krejci (upper body), forward Chris Kelly (broken left femur) and defenseman Adam McQuaid (upper body).
