HOUSESOFPARLIAMENT was cut to 12-1 for the St Leger after making a late rally under Ryan Moore to win the Bahrain Trophy and provide trainer Aidan O’Brien with the perfect start to the July festival.

The son of Galileo was last seen finishing fourth in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and demonstrated here that the extra furlong was well within his capabilities.

Since being upgraded to a Group 3 contest in 2009 this race has proved a decent pointer to the St Leger, and Housesofparliament will be hoping to emulate the 2011 Bahrain Trophy winner Masked Marvel who went on to win the Doncaster Classic two months later.

Coolmore’s Kevin Buckley said: “That was the best ground he’s encountered all year and it was obviously to his liking. He saw out the step up in trip fine, Ryan said he probably went a little sooner than he wanted to but the horse responded well. We’ve got more options now and let’s hope the weather stays good.”

Tracking the leaders in mid-division, Moore made his move inside the furlong marker as the field split into two. The pace looked to be stronger on the far side with Harrison and Harbour Law battling it out, however Housesofparliament and Platitude rallied late to contest the finish in the middle of the track.
