TWO out they were side by side, but by the line eight lengths seperated Josses Hill and God’s Own as Nicky Henderson’s 10-11 favourite finished off his rival in impressive fashion.

The third from last year’s Racing Post Arkle got the better of his rematch with the runner-up, albeit in receipt of 7lb, and was deemed by bookmakers to have enhanced his claims at this year’s festival.

Sky Bet and Betfred went 25-1 (from 40 and 50) for the Ryanair, while Betway went the same price (from 33) for the race they sponsor – the Queen Mother Champion Chase. BoyleSports were most impressed, going 14-1 (from 25) for the Ryanair.

God’s Own remains 33-1 for both races with Betfred.

Novice-y at his fences to begin with, Josses Hill was slow and safe after his crashing fall at Sandown in the Tingle Creek. But as the race warmed up so did he and he was excellent in the home straight to put the race to bed.

Turning for home the former Grade 1 winner God’s Own loomed into contention under Paddy Brennan and, going to the second last, looked like he was going to give the favourite a real fight.

But a bold jump and three flicks of Nico de Boinville’s whip saw Josses Hill scamper clear and an electric leap at the last saw him land running and stretch away all the way to the line.

Henderson said: “He jumped the three up the straight really well. It was the perfect race for him. That will build his confidence. The better the pace the better he is and the Ryanair looks the likely one.”

De Boinville added: “We’re back on track. He put in a good round of jumping. He’s learnt from that mistake in the Tingle Creek and I’m happy. It’s exactly what we wanted. His jumping has improved and 2m5f is what he wants.”

My Tent Or Yours gallop

It was an encouraging 15 minutes for Henderson as shortly after the race had finished star hurdler My Tent Or Yours was put through his paces in a racecourse gallop by Barry Geraghty.

The 2014 Champion Hurdle runner-up worked with stablemate Hargam, who was ridden by reigning champion jockey Sir Anthony McCoy.

“I can’t say they are going to go and slam Faugheen, but with a bit of luck they’ll be competitive,” said Henderson.

McCoy added: “I haven’t ridden on a racecourse since Doncaster [Leger Legends race].

“It was a good bit of work. They both went well. My Tent Or Yours went better, but then Hargam was carrying a lot more weight!”.
