Ballyroan Stakes (Group 3) 1m4f, 3yo+

STELLAR MASS continued his rapid progress this season with a determined victory for Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning.

The three-year-old was beaten in a maiden at the track back in April, but has since ascended the ranks with four wins from his last five starts.

Bondi Beach was sent off favourite to continue Aidan O’Brien’s recent dominance in the race but last season’s eventual St Leger second was unable to get close enough to the front pair in third.

Before O’Brien’s winning streak, Dermot Weld had won the race four times in a row, and he saddled the runner-up in Almela, who was having her first start since last October.

Winning jockey Manning said: “Since he won his maiden at the Curragh he’s not stopped progressing.

“We thought a lot of him last year but he ran into some good horses in maidens. He needed time as he was still immature and a big, weak horse. He has really come together this season and keeps on improving.”
