JOCKEY Liam Treadwell was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital on Thursday afternoon having been knocked briefly unconscious after a crunching fall at Bangor.

Riding Market Option in the 3m handicap chase, Treadwell was fired into the ground when his mount fell at the second fence when leading.

Worried jockeys in the weighing room were told Treadwell was up and talking by staff from the Venetia Williams yard, after the trainer had visited him at the scene.

It later emerged Treadwell had been knocked unconscious briefly, with clerk of the course Andrew Morris reporting: “Liam was taken to Wrexham hospital for further assessment as he was knocked unconscious. He was conscious when he was put in the ambulance.”

Treadwell, whose career highlight came when steering Mon Mome to a 100-1 victory in the 2009 Grand National, may now miss this year’s race as he faces a mandatory six-days off owing to his concussion.
