And they said he wouldn’t need an umbrella in the desert.

The item came in handy Tuesday for Cleveland Indians closer Cody Allen, who endured a barrage of incoming water balloons courtesy of some mischievous teammates during an in-game interview.

Allen did his best to give serious answers to the team’s broadcasters as the Tribe took on the Mariners in Spring Training action, all while starters Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco rained down fire upon him.

Cody Allen was fortunate to have an umbrella on hand as the water balloons started flying.

The reliever only once paused to protect himself from the attack, interrupting one of his responses to say, “Hold on, let me get this umbrella up.”

His harassers were unable to score a direct hit, a victory for the bullpen over the starting rotation.

It was actually the second such prank in four days for the Indians, as shortstop Francisco Lindor was pelted with sunflower seeds during a TV spot Saturday during a Cactus League game against the Giants.

As many baseball fans know, the on-air antics are nothing new in Cleveland.

During Kluber’s Cy Young season in 2014, the unflappable ace was showered with seeds, water and baby powder — a malicious mix that caused him to put his hood up and seek shelter using a yellow raincoat.

In the years prior, former Indians pitchers Justin Masterson and Vinnie Pestano felt the heat as well.

It doesn’t seem that manager Terry Francona’s club has any trouble staying loose — staying dry might be another matter.
