Nicky Henderson: likes his runners in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

NICKY HENDERSON may not have any festival bankers at Seven Barrows but he is confident his three-strong team for the new Trull House Stud Mares’ Novices Hurdle will put up a serious challenge.

Asked if he was going to win the new race he joked: “No problem – but which one? That’s a bigger problem.”

Henderson will field 10-1 shot Bloody Mary, 14-1 shot Chocca Wocca and Robins Reef at 16-1 and gave all three positive reports on Monday. 

“I love Robins Reef and they are three lovely fillies – you won’t believe Bloody Mary as she is tiny,” he said. “AP [McCoy] and Barry [Geraghty] schooled her and they said when you get on her it’s amazing what’s underneath her. She’s not very big but she’s got a lot of heart.”

Supreme chance

The yard’s best chance of a winner, however, may come in the opening Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Henderson said: “I think the first race with Altior and Buveur D’Air as a joint attack is the best race for us and hopefully one of them will be there at the last anyway.”

Among his team for the handicaps, Henderson will field Kilcrea Vale in the Coral Cup, Cup Final and Broxbourne in the Pertemps, Days Of Heaven and Cardinal Walter in the County Hurdle and Lough Kent in the Grand Annual.
