Ex-Jets receiver Kerley agrees to 1-yr deal with Lions

After being pushed almost completely to the sidelines in his final year with the Jets, Jeremy Kerley has a new home. The slot receiver has agreed to terms with the Lions, according to multiple reports.

The Jets cut Kerley on March 9.

Originally a fifth-round pick in 2011 by Mike Tannenbaum, Kerley proved useful as a possession receiver. With the Jets hurting for receiver depth from 2012 to 2014, Kerley started at least seven games in all three of those seasons. His most productive season was 2012, when he nabbed 56 passes for 827 yards and two touchdowns.

Kerley signed a four-year, $16 million extension with $5.4 million guaranteed in 2014.

But when Todd Bowles took over the Jets and brought in Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator, Kerley found his role dramatically reduced. He dropped down the depth chart and caught just 16 passes last season. Therefore, it was no surprise when Gang Green cut him.
