Basketball player Sebastien Bellin hurt in Brussels attacks

Sebastien Bellin, a Belgian professional basketball player and former member of the Oakland University team, was seriously injured in Tuesday’s terror bombings in Brussels.

Bellin was at the Brussels airport where two explosions occurred. Another bomb went off at a metro station in a different part of the city.

Bellin was reportedly thrown 65 feet into the air as a result of the explosion, according to his former professional team, BC Telenet Oostende, which has been providing information about the player’s condition via Twitter.

Sebastian Bellin is injured in the terror attacks on Brussels Airport Tuesday.

The team tweeted out a picture of Bellin in the aftermath of the bombings showing Bellin on the floor, his jeans tattered and blood surrounding his left leg.

“We wish our former player Sebastien Bellin already much strength and a speedy recovery!” BC Telenet Oostende tweeted.

The team provided an update late Tuesday morning, saying Bellin underwent a first surgery but still had shrapnel in his leg and hip. Greg Kampe, the head coach at Oakland who coached Bellin from 1998-2000, tweeted just before noon that his former player was going in for a second surgery.

“Please pray for Seb,” Kampe wrote.

ISIS claimed the terror strikes, which killed at least 34 people and wounded 180 more. Eleven people were killed and 81 were injured in the two bombings at the airport.

NYC, PARIS RAMP UP SECURITY AFTER BRUSSELS TERROR ATTACKS

The Brazilian-born Bellin, 37, is currently a member of the Gent Hawks, a Belgian professional team. The Hawks shared a post on their Facebook page early Tuesday that read, “The whole Gent Hawks family wishes him a speedy recovery. Good luck to the family.”

Bellin has also played for the Belgian national team and made his last appearance in 2010.
