Kristaps Porzingis dunks over half the Raptors during a November game in Toronto. He won’t get another crack on Thursday as he is out with an illness,

TORONTO – Kristaps Porzingis’ goal of playing in every game was killed on Thursday night, as the Knicks entered Air Canada Centre resembling more of an infirmary line than a playoff roster.

Three of the starters were out for New York, including leading scorers Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony. Porzingis was a late scratch less than an hour before tipoff with an upper respiratory illness, while Anthony missed his second straight with knee soreness.

Point guard Jose Calderon also was out of the lineup because of a groin strain, leaving the Knicks with a lineup that starting that included Lance Thomas, Langston Galloway and Kyle O’Quinn.

COMPARING PORZINGIS WITH EURO GREATS’ FIRST NBA SEASONS

Porzingis, 20, who was left off the All-Star reserves announced Thursday, has been pretty durable while already completing more minutes than any season in his career overseas. He seemed in good spirits in the morning shootaround while sporting a tight black leather jacket that amused his teammates, but apparently fell ill before the game.

His consecutive games streak stopped at 47.

The Raptors, trying to win their 10th straight game for the first time in franchise history, were thus denied their chance of revenge on Porzingis.

One of most impressive highlights of Porzingis’ short career was soaring for a putback dunk over three Toronto players during the Knicks’ first trip to Air Canada Centre in November. It’s not something Raptors coach Dwane Casey forgot heading into the rematch. He didn’t want his players to forget, either.

“I hope they take it personally,” Casey said. “If it was me, I would. We had about three guys who had an opportunity to crack him before he got to the rim to get that dunk.”

Anthony’s injury, while not as surprising, is potentially more concerning. He continued to downplay the pain in his knee, but it’s still alarming that it’s continuing to occur in the same area that required surgery to repair a partially torn patella tendon.

Anthony agreed with coach Derek Fisher’s assertion that the pain might be related to overcompensating for a previous injury – a sprained right ankle.

The Knicks were 0-5 without him.

“I’m very confident that this is nothing but some fatigue, a little bit of soreness,” said Anthony, adding that he hopes to play in Friday’s game against the Suns. “Probably just an overload of work. I could’ve been overcompensating in those games.”

Anthony also revealed there was a setback that held him out of Tuesday’s loss to the Thunder.

“That day the soreness spiked up so I didn’t want to go out there and be [limited] out there,” Anthony said. “I wanted to go out there and be myself. If I can’t be myself out there I feel like I’m hindering the team a little bit.”

Calderon also missed his first game of the season, as the ailments hit the Knicks like an avalanche in one night.

“With injuries you can’t get into the guessing game, you have to go with information you have at the moment,” Derek Fisher said. “Right now, it doesn’t seem major or significant but we have to make sure.”
