AR MAD, one of Britain’s leading Racing Post Arkle hopes, has been reported lame by trainer Gary Moore after his win at Plumpton on Monday.

Speaking on Monday evening, Moore revealed that Ar Mad had returned lame, but said it was too soon to speculate on whether he would be able to run at the Cheltenham Festival, adding: “Loads of horses come back lame and are then fine.”

The severity of the situation is not yet known.

“He’s been seen by the vet and we will have a better idea of where we stand in the morning,” Moore said.

Grade 1 winner Ar Mad has won his last four starts and is a top price of 9-1 for the Arkle with the bookmakers. He could be backed on the Betfair Exchange at 12-1 on Monday evening, though only to small stakes.

Douvan, who has won on all seven starts since joining Willie Mullins, is the 2-5 favourite.
