GARY MOORE has been dealt another big blow to his Cheltenham team, as Ar Mad has joined stablemate Violet Dancer in being ruled out of the Racing Post Arkle, while Nicky Henderson’s Simonsig will also miss the festival.

On Monday Moore revealed Kingmaker winner Violet Dancer had suffered a condylar fracture when scoring at Warwick which would rule him out for the rest of the campaign.

The trainer’s other Arkle hope, Ar Mad, had won at Plumpton on Monday as his prep for Cheltenham, but returned lame and on Tuesday Moore confirmed it was a season-ending setback with the six-year-old also suffering a condylar fracture.

“It is a front leg,” Moore said. “He didn’t look like a lame horse going round there [Plumpton].

“That’s the end of his season. The prognosis is good. He will be back all being well next season. He has had surgery to insert a screw in the leg.”

It has been a wretched month for Moore on the injuries front, as last week Champion Chase contender Traffic Fluide also met with a setback that curtailed his season.

Splint issue still dogging Simonsig

Former Arkle winner Simonsig, who had his first start since winning the race in 2013 in November last year, will not be ready in time for the festival.

The ten-year-old had the Champion Chase and Ryanair as options but will miss out, although he may yet run again this season.

Trainer Nicky Henderson said on Tuesday: “We took him out of Cheltenham this morning as we’re obviously not going to get there. It’s just a splint problem that has been annoying us for ages.

“We have been dragging it out and we’re not going to make it. We’ll look now at Aintree, Punchestown or wherever. We’ll keep trying, we’re not going to give up with him.”
