HENRY DE BROMHEAD says Special Tiara is likely to miss Saturday’s bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown and instead run in the BoyleSports Champion Chase at Punchestown on Tuesday.

Special Tiara was as short as 6-1 for the Celebration Chase having finished almost upsides Un De Sceaux at Cheltenham, but De Bromhead believes that it makes more sense to go to Punchestown, where the horse is a best-priced 11-2 with sponsors BoyleSports.

“He’ll go where we think he has the best chance and at this stage Punchestown is most likely. He’s been in good form since Cheltenham.”

Special Tiara won the 2015 Celebration Chase but this year’s renewal could be much stronger as Willie Mullins has entered Douvan, Vautour and Un De Sceaux, while Sprinter Sacre has been revitalised and is a different proposition to the horse that was runner-up last season.

Plans for Identity Thief

Regarding plans for some of his other stars, De Bromhead added: “Identity Thief has been good since his run in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and he’s likely to go to Punchestown. Sizing John will possibly go there too. I imagine I’ll have about half a dozen runners.”
