HOPES Saturday’s impressive Ascot handicap hurdle winner Different Gravey might liven up a Ryanair World Hurdle market dominated by Thistlecrack are unlikely to be fulfilled according to trainer Nicky Henderson.

Henderson is not entirely ruling the race out, but instead favours the 3m Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree on Crabbie’s Grand National day for the six-year-old, who was making his first appearance since returning from Ayr in April with an injury when scoring a 16-length win at Ascot.

It was a performance that is likely to see his official mark shoot up to around 160 – only 8lb below that of Thistlecrack, but Henderson is unlikely to be tempted into the clash at the Cheltenham Festival.

The Coral Cup remains a possibility for Different Gravey though and Henderson said: “We’ve first got to see what mark he gets before ruling out the Coral Cup,  but while the World Hurdle isn’t out of the question and I haven’t spoken properly yet to Richard [Kelvin-Hughes, owner], I think we are more likely to wait for the three-mile hurdle at Aintree.”

Different Gravey was given quotes of between 8-1 and 12-1 for the Ryanair World Hurdle after his Ascot success, while he is around 12-1 for the Coral Cup.
