WHAT could have been a spectacular all-weather coup proved to be a big disappointment as all four runners involved failed to fire.

Only three actually raced, as Feeltherhythm was withdrawn at the start at Southwell on veterinary advice, before Seven Summits, Miss Phillyjinks and Highwayman failed to make the places at Kempton.

There were some links that could be made between two of the runners and the legendary punter Barney Curley, but there was no repeat of his 2014 coup when four winners cost bookmakers in excess of £2 million.

Non-starter

Feeltherhythm was the first runner to line up at Southwell on Wednesday afternoon, but was withdrawn having been found to be lame.

Jockey Shane Kelly, who rode two of the winners in the 2014 coup then headed down to Kempton for another three rides, but punters who had his rides in multiples were out of luck as Seven Summits, Miss Phillyjinks and Highwayman were not placed, despite attracting late money on course.

Lame then sound

An eight-race maiden, Feeltherhythm was 11-2 earlier but backed into as short as 6-4, and was a 5-2 chance prior to being scratched.

Explaining the withdrawal Kelly said before he dashed off to Kempton: “She wasn’t kicked but she was lame.”

Starter Stuart Turner said: “She was lame on her near fore and was withdrawn on veterinary advice.”

The veterinary officer reported that when initially leaving the racecourse she observed that the mare was lame, however, on subsequent examination back at the stable yard, and having trotted her up without saddle or rider, Feeltherhythm appeared to be sound.

Her withdrawal resulted in a deduction of 25p in the pound from all bets and also reduced to number of places for each-way and Placepot punters from three to two.
