TAMPA –It seems unlikely the Yankees will enter spring camp with any further clarity about Aroldis Chapman’s potential suspension under Major League Baseball’s new domestic violence policy.

A baseball source said Wednesday that no announcement is expected in the next few days and there remains no firm timeline on a decision on discipline for Chapman, the Yanks’ new closer. Earlier this winter, there was some thought MLB could decide before camps opened, but the source said the start of spring training would not push up the decision. 

Last month, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that he’d like to resolve the matter before the beginning of the season.

MLB has investigated Chapman, Yasiel Puig and Jose Reyes under the new policy but Manfred has yet to render a decision on any of the three. Whatever he decides, it could set precedent in a new policy.

Chapman did not face charges in Florida for an alleged incident with his girlfriend. MLB’s policy does not depend on a conviction or whether charges are brought.  

Yankee pitchers and catchers will have their first workout Friday at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
