Aroldis Chapman and Yankees avoid arbitration.

The Yankees and closer Aroldis Chapman came to an agreement on a one-year deal for $11.325 million Friday, avoiding an arbitration hearing that had been set for next week.

Chapman had filed for $13.1 million, while the Yankees countered with a figure of $9 million. The settlement came in $275,000 above the mid-point.

“I’d always rather decide it mutually than have someone else decide for us,” general manager Brian Cashman said, adding that he never thought the Yankees and Chapman would get to a hearing.

The Yankees had previously reached deals with Nathan Eovaldi ($5.6 million), Michael Pineda ($4.3 million), Ivan Nova ($4.1 million), Dustin Ackley ($3.2 million) and Didi Gregorius ($2.425 million) earlier this offseason, avoiding arbitration with all six eligible players.

“You never know on any of these things,” Cashman said. “We filed a number to settle. (Chapman) was not a case that was going to wind up in a hearing room; this was one that was more likely to settle than any of them.”
