Guess who hit the game-winner shot Sunday night? It wasn’t either of these guys, Kobe Bryant (l.) or Carmelo Anthony. Nope, it was Jose Calderon.

LOS ANGELES – The dagger shot wasn’t delivered by Kobe Bryant or even Carmelo Anthony.

Instead, in the final frantic seconds of a game featuring a fading legend, Jose Calderon salvaged a trying season for himself by ruining Kobe’s last ever game against the Knicks.

Calderon, good friends with Bryant’s former teammate Pau Gasol, hit a pull-up 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining as the Knicks, despite blowing a big lead, rallied to defeat the Lakers 90-87.

Bryant finished with 15 points on 5-for-14 shooting and missed his last two shots after returning to the game with 3:32 remaining. The crowd was electric as Bryant hit a couple of jumpers over Arron Afflalo. But with the game tied, Bryant’s baseline jumper rattled out and the Knicks controlled the rebound.

Following a time out, the Knicks attempted to run a player for Anthony who had scored five points over 30 seconds to give the Knicks the lead in the final minute. However, Bryant refused to allow Anthony to get the ball. Calderon dribbled to his right, got away with a slight push off on Marcelo Huertas and calmly sank the three.

Anthony led the Knicks with 26 points on 10 for 20 shooting for the Knicks, who improved to 28-40. The Lakers fell to 14-53.

The Knicks played without Kristaps Porzingis, who was sidelined with the stomach flu. Porzingis traveled with the Knicks to the arena but returned to the team hotel one hour before tip-off. The Lakers D’Angelo Russell, who was taken two picks ahead of Porzingis in last June’s NBA Draft, scored just four points on 1 for 7 shooting.

He wasn’t on the floor in the fourth quarter as the Lakers went with a lineup featuring Huertas, Lou Williams and Larry Nance Jr., against the Knicks regulars. Williams led the Lakers with 15 points.

Phil Jackson, who won five rings as Bryant’s coach with the Lakers, was in attendance for Bryant’s final game against the Knicks. Jackson received a loud ovation when he was shown on the giant scoreboard.

That’s what they do here; honor the past because the present is so dreadful. Calderon added to that on Sunday.
