QUEEN Mary Stakes winner Acapulco (Wesley Ward/Irad Ortiz), last seen coming second against her elders in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, makes her three-year-old debut in minor company under the floodlights at Turfway Park in northern Kentucky.

The daughter of Scat Daddy is sure to start long odds-on as she contests a $20,900 optional claimer over 6f on the Polytrack.

Ward, who is 12-for-23 since December at Turfway, plans to run Acapulco once more before a return to Royal Ascot in the summer, where she slammed her rivals in last year’s Queen Mary before a two-length second to Mecca’s Angel as 13-8 favourite for the Nunthorpe.

Keeneland-based Ward told the Daily Racing Form he wanted to get a run into the Coolmore-owned filly. “Every work she’s had has been better than the one before,” he said. “Rather than keep working – she’s only won one race – I thought running there made sense instead of working and working.”
