The best MLB spring training hats — and a few of the worst

MLB released its new spring training uniforms.

So much for waiting for pitchers and catchers to report.

MLB just released new gear for all 30 teams — with some taking a classic approach like the Mets with a Mr. Met logo and Baltimore going with the Oriole Bird.

Others got creative, like the Rays introducing a sunburst and the Blue Jays offering a maple leaf.

The Dodgers even took some advice from “Mr. Baseball.”

Here’s a look at five of the biggest hits and two of the worst misses:

White Sox

Chicago White SoxMLB

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox are going back to their roots with the “Batter Up” logo they used from 1976-1990. He’s fun and he’s clean — he just doesn’t have a great stance.

Royals

Kansas City RoyalsMLB

Kansas City Royals

It stings a bit in New York, but the Royals are World Series champs and they get to act like it for a year. Literally crowning themselves on their cap is only fair.

Brewers

Milwaukee BrewersMLB

Milwaukee Brewers

Hidden within the Brewers logo is an ever-so-subtle “M” and a “B,” which just adds to the mystique. The cap is basic and sturdy with a bold logo, and that’s all you need.

Athletics

Oakland AthleticsMLB

Oakland Athletics

Oakland stuck with a similar cap to last year, going back to a full green hat and using a gold outline instead of white. It’s the logo — the Athletics mascot balancing on a baseball — that’s timeless.

Reds

Cincinnati RedsMLB

Cincinnati Reds

When your logo has a mustache and hat as perfect as the Reds, designing merchandise is simple.

Mariners

Seattle MarinersMLB

Seattle Mariners

The Mariners cap itself is fine — those are their colors, whatever. But the logo looks weirdly tiny. Someone needs to go back and notch it up a few sizes in Photoshop.

Tigers

Detroit TigersMLB

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers have two caps: one is nice, the other is decidedly not. The gaudy orange is bad enough, but covering the entire hat? That’s just mean.
