EXCITING prospects Bellshill, Ivanovich Gorbatov and Tombstone all feature on a star-studded card at Leopardstown on Saturday, with dual Grade 1 winner Road To Riches the class act in the feature Irish Gold Cup.

The Irish Gold Cup headlines the card with last year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup third Road To Riches attempting to boost his prospects for a repeat bid at the Festival next month after a stunted season.

Road To Riches is the 4-5 favourite to score at Leopardstown with William Hill, and spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said: “Road To Riches has a good chance of winning the Irish Gold Cup and that would only underline his chances for the Cheltenham Festival.”

Owners Gigginstown House Stud are also represented by First Lieutenant, Sir Des Champs, Valseur Lido and Wounded Warrior, while last year’s one-two, Carlingford Lough and Foxrock, have also been declared.

Top of the hill?

The burgeoning career of JCB Triumph Hurdle favourite Ivanovich Gorbatov will also be under the microscope at Leopardstown after he surged to the head of the market with a smooth success over the reopposing Let’s Dance. The duo face six rivals in the Grade 1 Gain Spring Juvenile Hurdle.

After an unusually quiet weekend last week, Willie Mullins will be aiming to get back to form and fires leading Neptune Novices’ Hurdle contender Bellshill at the Grade 1 Deloitte Novice Hurdle and Pont Alexandre in the Grade 1 Flogas Novice Chase.

Mullins has used the Deloitte Novice Hurdle as a launchpad to Festival success with Champagne Fever and Vautour in recent years and he will be hoping that Bellshill can follow in their footsteps, although he does not face an easy task with Tombstone in opposition.

Market mover

The six-runner Flogas Novice Chase is perhaps lacking a horse of star potential, but it is certainly competitive.

Zabana, who beat the highly-touted Tell Us More on chasing debut, was the subject of a market move for the JLT Novices’ Chase during the week, while McKinley and Pont Alexandre are Grade 1-winning hurdlers.
