THERE were mixed fortunes for some of this week’s jumps meetings on Monday morning as Plumpton and Ayr beat the wintry weather but Exeter was washed out.

Plumpton’s Monday card had been subject to an 8am inspection with rain causing concern but officials gave the fixture the go-ahead after only 0.5mm of rain fell overnight.

Clerk of the course Mark Cornford has described the going as “heavy, wet and testing” and the first race is due off at 1.45.

With Ffos Las already abandoned due to waterlogging, Wolverhampton completes the day’s action.

On Tuesday, Ayr has got the all clear to race with officials seeing fit to cancel the inspection booked for midday on Monday. There is snow on the frost sheets but the thaw is under way with temperatures rising and rain falling.

The rain has caught out Exeter, however, with officials reporting the course to be waterlogged and cancelling Tuesday’s meeting.

Musselburgh has arranged a midday inspection on Tuesday for Wednesday’s fixture. The course was described as partly frozen on Monday morning and low temperatures are forecast to continue.
