CHARLOTTE — Lucky teams don’t cruise to NFC Championship Game victories. Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman wants everyone to know that.

Moments after the Panthers routed the Arizona Cardinals, 49-15, on Sunday night, the loud-mouthed corner blasted what he perceived as a crowd of doubters who still don’t believe that Carolina is for real.

“I watch,” said Norman. “I’m not dumb to what goes on. So all them guys that’s sitting up there picking the Cardinals, great. And thinking that they’re gonna blow us out because we’ve never seen a wide receiving corps like that, great.

“Look at what we showed today. We could have put a 50-burger up there! Coach pulled us back!” added Norman, whose infamous clash with Odell Beckham Jr. this season resulted in a one-game suspension for the Giants wide receiver.

In the days leading up to Sunday’s demolition of the Cardinals, some had wondered whether Carolina’s defense, beset by injuries, would be able to contain Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer, who threw 35 TDs during the regular season, and a receiving corps that was headlined by Larry Fitzgerald.

But the Cards managed just 287 total yards on Sunday, and Palmer turned in a nightmarish performance, throwing four interceptions and fumbling twice before being yanked late in the fourth quarter.

“You don’t put up 49 points by just getting out of bed in the morning,” Norman said. “You do it by hard work.”

Norman added that he still expects plenty of people to doubt the Panthers heading into their Super Bowl 50 matchup with the Denver Broncos in Santa Clara.

“People still saying this is a fluke,” he said. “I’m sure they’re going to go back and say, ‘Well, the Cardinals had an off night.’ You know what, continue to make excuses for teams. We enjoy it. We love it.”

NO EXCUSES

Palmer did not blame the finger he dislocated at the end of the regular season for his awful performance. “Not at all,” he said, when asked if it bothered him Sunday.

He added that the Cardinals did not enter the game thinking they would be able to dominate the banged-up Panther defense, which was missing defensive end Jared Allen and has been playing without corner Beni Benwikere since December. “We weren’t overconfident,” he said. “They (the Panther defense) can do it all.”
