Ivanovich Gorbatov: impressive on hurdling debut at Leopardstown

THE ill-fated Our Conor was the last horse to win the Grade 1 Gain Spring Juvenile Hurdle and follow up in the JCB Triumph Hurdle and there are plenty who believe Ivanovich Gorbatov will repeat that feat three years on.

Punters were falling over themselves to back Ivanovich Gorbatov for the Triumph Hurdle after his maiden hurdle win at Leopardstown over Christmas where he jumped like an old pro before readily quickening clear of Let’s Dance, who the bookmakers believe is his biggest danger once again.

Now favourite for the Triumph Hurdle, Ivanovich Gorbatov was rated 103 on the Flat and looks a natural over hurdles so anything other than victory at Leopardstown would be a big disappointment.

Joseph O’Brien, assistant trainer of Ivanovich Gorbatov and stablemate Best Kept Secret, said: “Ivanovich Gorbatov seems in good form since his win the last day and we hope he runs a good race. He has always jumped well and hopefully he can do so again. Best Kept Secret seems in good nick too, but he wouldn’t want much more rain.”

Fillies to the fore

Let’s Dance leads the charge from Closutton as Willie Mullins attempts to win the race for the second year in a row following the success of Petite Parisienne 12 months ago.

Let’s Dance is one of three fillies in the line-up. Jer’s Girl was mugged late by Apple’s Jade in the Grade 2 Spring Juvenile Hurdle over course and distance in December and will once again love the deep ground, while Lagostovegas might only be rated 119 but she looked a lot better than that when winning by a wide margin at Naas last month.

The Colin Kidd-trained Rashaan was one of the market leaders for the Triumph Hurdle before he fluffed his lines over Christmas, but Kidd is convinced he was not himself on that occasion.
