PORT ST. LUCIE — Ruben Tejada may get a new rule named after him, but the Mets shortstop will not get any disciplinary satisfaction after Chase Utley fractured his leg last October. A said that the Dodgers’ second baseman had his two-game suspension for the takeout slide in Game 2 of the National League Division series overturned.

Visiting players at Mets camp on Sunday MLB Players Association Executive Director Tony Clark confirmed that Utley’s appeal of the suspension had been resolved. He would not reveal or comment on the outcome.

Utley slid late, off the base path and directly into Tejada to try and break up a double play. He also broke Tejada’s shin bone. Healed and in camp fighting for his spot on the 25-man roster, Tejada said just last week he had not heard from Utley since the incident.

MLB issued update to the second base slide rules last month, which some call the Tejada-Utley rule, with the attempt to better protect middle-infielders and prevent another brutal collision like that from happening again. Pirates rookie shortstop Jung-Ho Kang also suffered a broken leg and knee injury in a similar collision with the Cubs’ Chris Coghlan earlier in the 2015 season. Kang released a statement saying he did not hold Coghlan responsible.

The Mets were not so inclined. They called the play dirty and a “slide tackle,” after the game and David Wright pointed out a long pattern of Utley injuring other players.

Utley, who was booed unmercifully when introduced at Citi Field two days later, may not serve a suspension, but he knows he will pay for the incident. In an awkward coincidence Mets’ right-handed reliever Erik Goeddel ended up golfing with Utley. After briefly discussing the incident with the Mets bullpen hand, Utley requested that the Mets not “peg him in the head.”
