MANY CLOUDS will journey north again this weekend, as the BHA and other interested parties moved to allow the rescheduling of Kelso’s meeting lost on Saturday for Sunday, March 13.

The Crabbie’s Grand National hero of last season was an intended runner in the Listed totepoolliveinfo.com Premier Chase before heading back to defend his crown at Aintree, but those plans were aborted when the track became waterlogged following heavy rain on Friday night.

However, the entire card has been successfully rearranged for Sunday, with entries to be made by noon on Tuesday, and Many Clouds is set to feature.

Trainer Oliver Sherwood said:  “It’s a great initiative by the BHA and everyone involved to save the fixture. I’d been involved in discussions in the past few days. All being well Many Clouds will be there on Sunday.”

Kelso officials pleased

A delighted clerk of the course, Anthea Morshead, said: “We are absolutely thrilled about moving one of our most prestigious meetings to Sunday which is unprecedented here and full marks to the racecourse, BHA, race-planning, Racing UK and the Tote for supporting the move. I know that Oliver Sherwood was keen to bring Many Clouds back and we also expect Unioniste to run in the Listed Chase.”

Relentless rain meant the original fixture was lost at the last minute, something that had not been forecast but Morshead is expecting no such trauma this time around.

She added: “It was a bit like finding your favourite horse was lame. We were good, good to soft the day before but had 24mm before racing and it wasn’t stopping. Thankfully, it’s set to be dry and mild before Sunday with only brief showers on Wednesday so we should be okay.”
