Lions LB DeAndre Levy fires back at Jim Irsay

[ad_1]

It wasn’t hard to see this one coming.

On Monday night, Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy took a shot at Colts owner Jim Irsay, who just hours earlier had called into question the risks of the game of football and compared it to taking aspirin.

That led Levy, who’s been outspoken in the “war” against concussions that may never truly get settled (because hey, from players to owners to viewers, nobody actually wants the sport of football to disappear from the face of the Earth, right?), to call out Irsay on social media, the world’s new standard battleground.

“Frequent trips to the pharmacy makes you a medical expert on CTE?” Levy said from his Instagram account.

It was a direct shot at Irsay’s comments to the SportsBusiness Journal in a story earlier on Monday, when Irsay had spoken of the risks of playing football.

“I believe this: that the game has always been a risk, you know, and the way certain people are,” he said. “Look at it. You take an aspirin, I take an aspirin, it might give you extreme side effects of illness and your body … may reject it, where I would be fine. So there is so much we don’t know.”

Levy, while no expert on concussions himself, has been outspoken against the league’s handling of head injuries, suggesting to ESPN last week that the league needed more “transparency” in its handling of concussion matters.
