That’s one way to curry favor.

During the first period of Wednesday night’s game against Colorado, L.A. Kings forward Milan Lucic got into it with Avalanche winger Cody McLeod.

But instead of a shot to his opponent, Lucic swung just a little too far and also caught the jaw of linesman Jay Sharrers, who had skated in to break up the scuffle.

Los Angeles Kings forward Milan Lucic punched a referee in the face during Wednesday night’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Sharrers recovered and Lucic stayed in the game without a penalty.

Wednesday was Lucic’s first game back on the ice, back from a one-game suspension after sucker punching Arizona Coyotes forward Kevin Connauton on Jan. 23.

The Avalanche won 4-3.
