JOCKEY Daniel Tudhope was taken to York District Hospital on Thursday afternoon after a crashing fall from Areen at York.

The rider, 33, was taken for a precautionary check-up after a frightening incident at just past halfway in the 5f EBF Westow Stakes, won by Easton Angel.

Tudhope was stretchered off the course and taken to the weighing room where he was reported to be conscious. However, he was taken to hospital after being assessed.

Areen collapsed and died in the race with a suspected heart attack.

A dual Group 1-winner, Tudhope has ridden 25 winners so far in 2016 and notched up centuries in both 2013 and 2014.
