Yes, when it comes to the Islanders’ first year in their move to Barclays Center, “the kinks of the daily routine,” captain John Tavares put it, still are being worked out and tweaked.

The team captain had allowed in November that commuting to Brooklyn during morning rush hour by train and then staying all day at a nearby hotel following morning skates made it “somewhat” feel as if the Isles were playing all 82 of their games this season on the road.

So beginning Thursday, the Isles have switched their a.m. game-day practices back to their facility in Syosset on Long Island.

BARCLAYS CENTER NOT NETTING MANY FANS FOR HOOPS, HOCKEY

“It’s obviously been a big change this year going to Brooklyn and we’re trying many different things to see what works best,” Tavares said before Thursday’s game against first-place Washington. “Our practice situation is going to change eventually, as well. So this allows you obviously to spend more time at home, to feel more at home when we’re playing at home.

“I think mostly that’s what it’s about to reduce some of the travel, some of the ‘planes, trains and automobiles,’ with all the transportation we take…I think mentally and physically it’s a good thing. It’s our first time going through the whole process of a whole season doing this. We’re obviously still working out the kinks and trying to find what works best, and at this point in the year, as a group this is what we feel will be good for us.”

The Isles are 13-6-2 at Barclays Center (and 22-13-5 overall) in their first season since moving from Nassau Coliseum. They are ranked next to last in the NHL in average attendance at 12,977 per game (82 percent of 15,795 capacity), although those numbers have steadily risen over the past month.

BRAWL AT ISLANDERS GAME LEADS TO NEW BARCLAYS BOOZE POLICY

Coach Jack Capuano indicated the switch to skate and meet on Long Island – where the Isles still live – was made at the players’ request and will continue “for a while,” perhaps for the remainder of the season.

“This has been talked about all year. It’s been brought up by the coaches. It’s been brought up by us. It wasn’t just one day that this is what we’d like to do,” Tavares said. “We’ve talked all year about what we’re feeling, going through the process of the season and just daily how we feel and how it’s all going. It’s been an open communication and at this point we felt like it was a good time to give this a shot.”

Tavares, who was named Wednesday to his third consecutive All-Star Game, added that some players will continue to take the Long Island Railroad to games, while others plan to drive or hire car services.

“For us, I don’t think we saw how maybe this would work,” Tavares said. “I think a lot of us wanted to experience being at Barclays more, being in the room, skating there and getting to know the ice. But now it seems like a lot of us have gotten a good sense of that.

“At this point in the year, you travel so much, you go back and forth so much, I think you just want to spend time at home when you’re at home and make it feel more like it has been in the past. It’s our first time really going through all of this, so we’re just trying to get a sense of it all.”

Thursday’s game marks the first this season against Alex Ovechkin and the Caps since Washington ousted the Isles in seven games in the first round of the playoffs last spring. Jaroslav Halak will make his first start in goal since suffering an upper-body injury on Dec. 21.
