The Islanders historically have fared poorly in their next game following any win over the Rangers, and the end result of Sunday’s late-afternoon tilt against Vancouver certainly seemed headed to be more of the same.

This was no full-fledged hangover, mind you, as the Isles carried large chunks of the play throughout until Ryan Strome tied the score in the final minute of regulation to earn an important standings point in what turned out to be a 2-1 shootout loss to the Canucks at Barclays Center.

Following a sluggish start in terms of attendance in their debut season in Brooklyn, the Isles have announced capacity crowds of 15,795 in three of their past five home dates (five overall). The Isles, who finished the game with a whopping 48-26 shot advantage (including 22-4 in the third period), don’t play again until Friday in Ottawa.

The Isles (24-15-6) appeared headed to their third shutout defeat of the season and second in the past four games, as Canucks goalie Ryan Miller had been sensational through the first 59 minutes.

But with Halak pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute, Frans Nielsen won a left-circle faceoff to Nick Leddy, who found Strome for a one-timer that snuck past Miller for a 1-1 game with 50.8 seconds remaining.

Radim Vrbata scored the lone goal in the penalty-shot tiebreaker, with Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo and John Tavares missing for the Isles.

The Isles did post a victory over St. Louis immediately following their previous win over the Rangers in December, but they fell Sunday to 37-54-22 all-time in games immediately after wins over the Blueshirts.

Isles forward Mikhail Grabovski was issued a boarding major and a game misconduct for decking Henrik Sedin into the boards in front of the visiting bench at 18:16 of the first period. But the Canucks negated much of that five-minute power play with a retaliatory roughing penalty by Matt Bartkowski and Jared McCann’s high-stick of Tavares about 90 seconds later.

Sedin did not return to the ice to start the second period, but the Canucks opened the scoring on defenseman Ben Hutton’s wrister from the left circle over Halak’s shoulder at 9:46.

Okposo and Tavares (three goals in 19 games) couldn’t stuff loose pucks past Miller on an Isles power play earlier in the period, and Casey Cizikas had two shorthanded scoring chances denied by Miller shortly after Hutton’s goal. Okposo also had multiple point-blank chances to tie stuffed by Miller late in the third.
