JUST because you are a proven Group 1 winner, that does not mean you are not still improving. That is the frightening prospect for anyone tempted to oppose Twilight Son in the Diamond Jubilee.

There is no doubt he was one of the best sprinters around last season, progressing from handicaps to land the Haydock Sprint Cup and beat all bar the outstanding Muhaarar in the Champions Sprint here.

Yet trainer Henry Candy reckons he will be even better as a four-year-old this season – and he should know.

He trained Twilight Son’s sire Kyllachy – who stepped up markedly at four and won the Nunthorpe – and his half-brother Music Master, who improved with age and finished fourth in this event twice.

Nor was Candy’s faith shaken by the colt’s managing only fifth place at York last month, the only time he has finished outside the first two.
