HAWKBILL and Almanzor, two of the season’s leading middle-distance three-year-olds, have both been added to the field for the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 10.

The pair, winners of the Coral-Eclipse and Prix Du Jockey-Club respectively this season, join a line-up that already included Postponed, Harzand and Fascinating Rock at a cost of €22,500.

Hawkbill’s entry comes just days after trainer Charlie Appleby threw down the gauntlet to his International Stakes rivals at York on August 17. All options are open to Godolphin’s star of this season, who is also in the British equivalent on British Champions Day.

Almanzor is one of seven European Group 1 winners for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget this year and he could also represented on the Irish Champion Day card by Qemah and Ervedya in the Matron Stakes and Taareef and Ghaaly in the Boomerang Stakes.

Fascinating Rock and Minding are generally vying for favouritism on ante-post lists at around 4-1, though Aidan O’Brien’s star filly can be backed at 5-1 with Stan James and Betfair.
