CLASSIC-WINNING rider Colm O’Donoghue has revealed plans to team up with Jessica Harrington for the upcoming Flat season, although his association with Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle operation is set to continue.

O’Donoghue has enjoyed plenty of big-race success at home and abroad over the past decade for O’Brien, including victory in last year’s Investec Oaks with Qualify.

O’Brien, whose number one rider is Ryan Moore, will continue to have first call on O’Donoghue’s services but the rider’s new association with Harrington should only increase his opportunities in 2016.

“I met Jessie after coming back from my winter stint in India and she asked me to ride her horses this season when I’m not wanted by Aidan,” O’Donoghue told the Irish Times.

He added: “I rode for her a few times when I was an apprentice but this came out of the blue and I’m delighted.”

Powerful yard

Harrington was left without her regular rider when Fran Berry announced last month that he was to move to Britain to join Classic-winning trainer Ralph Beckett for the 2016 turf season.

Among those O’Donoghue has to look forward to in Harrington’s powerful yard are Group 3 Anglesey Stakes winner Final Frontier and smart filly Bocca Baciata.

They team up at the Curragh on Sunday, when O’Donoghue rides Harrington’s Princess Aloof and St Brelades Bay.
