ONE of greyhound racing’s most important sponsors has been banned from horseracing for eight years and three months for laying his horses over a period of more than two years.

Alan Findlay, whose company Pin Point Recruitment has become a major player in greyhound racing, was handed his suspension on Friday by a BHA-appointed disciplinary panel that also disqualified his ex-wife Gillian Findlay and Louise Thompson, while excluding his associates Andrew Hall, Robert Thompson and James Carter.

The three-person panel, chaired by Matthew Lohn, found Findlay had placed lay bets on Khawatim and 19 other runners, while he also failed to provide telephone records and acted in a manner prejudicial to the integrity of the sport namely by “directing abusive and foul language” towards members of the BHA’s integrity, legal and risk department carrying out the investigation.

Thompson was banned for three years and six months for placing lay bets on Findlay’s behalf and failing to provide telephone accounts, while Hall, Thompson and Cater were warned off for 18 months for laying Khawatim for the owner, who knew he was prohibited from doing so as a listed person.

Gillian Findlay incurred a one-year suspension for not providing telephone details.

None of the individuals attended the hearing, which began on Monday and took place at the BHA’s London offices. The full reasons for these findings will be released at a later date, British racing’s regulator said on Friday.
