The Giants added their first offensive players in free agency on Monday, agreeing to terms on contracts with veteran fullback Will Johnson and journeyman guard Ryan Seymour on Monday, according to league sources.

The 27-year-old Johnson has spent his entire four-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he’s played an H-back role, lining up mostly as a fullback and occasionally as a tight end. The 6-2, 240-pounder could provide some competition for fullback Nikita Whitlock, who beat out Henry Hynoski for the fullback job last summer, but impressed mostly on special teams and as a two-way player who took limited snaps as a defensive tackle, too.

Johnson also could double as a blocking tight end, something the Giants need since the strength of all their current tight ends – Larry Donnell, Will Tye, Jerome Cunningham and Matt LaCosse – is receiving. The Giants were expected to look for a blocking tight end this offseason, to replace Daniel Fells whose career is likely over due to the MRSA infection he suffered last season.

The 26-year-old Seymour was a seventh-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, but has bounced around to five teams in the three years since. The 6-4, 305-pounder has only played in 11 career games – all with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 when he made three starts at center.

The following August, Seymour was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s policy on Performance Enhancing Drugs. He insisted he “did not knowingly take a substance that was on the NFL’s banned list.” He was cut by the Browns 10 days later and has not appeared in an NFL game since, though he has since been reinstated by the league.

Seymour, who will likely compete for a reserve role on the Giants’ line in camp this summer, appears to have gotten the nod over two other veteran offensive linemen who reportedly visited the Giants on Monday – Byron Stingily, formerly of the Steelers, and Ben Ijalana, formerly of the Jets.

Meanwhile, the Giants also hosted former Dolphins linebacker Kelvin Sheppard on a free-agent visit on Monday, according to a source. The 28-year-old Sheppard, started 13 games for Miami last season and recorded a career-high 105 tackles, is a former third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills (2011).

The Giants have already signed two middle linebackers this offseason. They added the injury-prone, former Washington linebacker Keenan Robinson, and they re-signed veteran Jasper Brinkley.
